When Minato's landlord evicts him from his apartment, he and Musubi must search for a new place to live. However, Minato gets in trouble with the landlord since he was in violation of his apartment rules. Minato discovers that she is a "Sekirei" and that he is her "Ashikabi" (ie. Sahashi Minato, a typical ronin student, finds his life suddenly changed after meeting a strange girl named Musubi. The opening and ending themes were released as part of the Sekirei OST on July 23, 2008. The ending song used for the eleventh episode was Kimi wo Omou Toki (きみを想うとき), done only by Saori Hayami herself. The opening theme used for Sekirei is Sekirei (セキレイ) and the ending theme is Dear sweet heart for all of the first eleven episodes, both songs performed by Saori Hayami (#88 Musubi), Marina Inoue (#9 Tsukiumi), Kana Hanazawa (#108 Kusano) and Aya Endo (#2 Matsu). The first season is mostly faithful to the overall story structure of the manga series, covering roughly the first fifty chapters of the series. FUNIMATION has adopted the show's first season for a North American release in 2012. It had been officially announced by Square Enix's Young Gangan that Sekirei would be animated with Keizō Kusakawa directing the show and Seven Arcs doing the animation.

This is a list of episodes for the first season of the Japanese anime series Sekirei, which began airing on September 21 2008, with commercials for the show being aired in advance. At Anime USA 2009, Funimation Entertainment announced that the anime's first season was licensed and will be released in 2010. DVD volume six was supplemented with an original video animation episode, "The First Errand" (初メテノオツカイ, Hajimete no Otsukai), featuring Kusano participating in the shopping race with Musubi and Tsukiumi. The first season aired in Japan between July 2 and September 17, 2008, the second season entitled Pure Engagement aired in Japan between June 13 and September 26, 2010. The Anime adaptation of the Manga is produced by the animation studio Seven Arcs, directed by Keizō Kusakawa and written by Takao Yoshioka.
